Actorsville: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE ACTING BUSINESS?
Michael: I would say "officially" since 1993 when I graduated from CalArts (The California Institute of the Arts) with my MFA in Acting.
AV: WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GET INTO ACTING?
Michael: I think for most of us who've taken the career route as an actor, it's a profession that chooses us. I gravitated towards entertainment from the time I was a kid. I'm a big sports fan too, having grown up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame city of Canton, Ohio, but performing in the Arts is where I kept finding where I truly wanted to be. I think the big decision to make the leap into pursuing an acting career was when I landed the role of "The Emcee" in CABARET during my freshman year at BGSU (Bowling Green State University in Ohio). The director took me aside and told me that he was taking a big chance on casting a freshman in this role and I made it a point not to disappoint anyone, let alone myself. The music, the choreography, the acting, the makeup and costumes...the experience of the whole show was the embodiment of theatricality and I was hooked from that moment on.
A great YouTube video by Jennifer Rae about getting started in acting.
